DANIEL Detherage 10/25/21 3:29 PM I support the resolution to adopt ‘White Ribbon Week’. Like so many children, I was exposed to pornography at an age far too young. The average age a child will first be exposed to pornography is somewhere between 11 and 13 years old, (and they don’t look away). That set me on a path to incredibly painful consequences that lasted well into my adult life. Science has proven that the stimulation and addictive nature of pornography is stronger than illegal drugs. The seemingly harmless practice of viewing this material is ravaging the minds of children, men and women in our society and causing immeasurable emotional and physiological harm. The harm is not just to those choosing to view pornography. Sex trafficking awareness has received much attention, and it is time to supports efforts to bring attention to the root of it: pornography. There is help and freedom from pornography use and addiction, but it needs more exposure and public education about its affects on the human brain and it’s detrimental affects on our society. Thank you for your consideration and please vote in favor of R2021-19.
sandra higgins 10/25/21 3:38 PM Please support this proposal.
Brendon Cromwell 10/25/21 4:06 PM I thinking Pierce County should adopt this.
James Marshall 10/25/21 4:11 PM Please vote for this. Pornography is a scourge on society that especially affects young people tremendously in this internet age, affecting their expectations and ability to have healthy relationships. This resolution may raise awareness by causing conversations to realize that this eye candy is poisonous to the mind and heart.
Terri Marshall 10/25/21 4:12 PM Please support this resolution. Pornography is a dangerous thing to families and young people. It destroys families and warps the minds of the young.
Edith Owens 10/25/21 5:51 PM Pornography and Trafficking can be difficult topics that people don’t like to talk about. Many of the people in these pornography videos are actually victims of trafficking, and trafficking of women and children is very high in the United States. We must create awareness of this blight on our society, so that we can prevent the trauma it brings, especially on children. Please vote yes on R2021-191.
Jami roland 10/25/21 5:56 PM Good afternoon Pierce County elected officials, I would like to start by thanking you for all you do in service to the community. I may not always agree with each of you, but I trust you have a heart of true service and meant the very best for your constituents. With this said, I need to speak on a very serious issue and I firmly expect and believe you will read this and hear my concerns with open ears and heart. I am a survivor of sexual assault/abuse. I do my best to live a normal, productive life, be kind and supportive and focus on the good. So I hope you agree, there should be NO disagreement when it comes to R2021-19. If we really value our women and #ME, girl power and the lot, we must protect our women (and children). I can site studies if you like, but to save you reading, I can provide on demand. Please do your best to at least quickly read this, I tried to narrow down the details but each point represents your little brother or sister, daughter or son, niece or nephew, your girlfriend or boyfriend or your mom or dad, or worse maybe even you. PLEASE READ and if you are not a victim/survivor, try to image this..i can point you to a well crafted video that is good at helping you walk in our shoes! The link between PORN and SEXUAL ABUSE and VIOLENCE is already well established in countless medical and assorted journals. Factor in that prostitution and porn often involve Sex Trafficking victims (we are #7 in the US and Seattle is #4 for TRAFFICING) Pornography feeds the growing appetites of child sexual abusers! Pornography has a number of public health impacts and negative consequences to the user, their network, and to society. It is directly connected to increased violence against women, increased demand for prostitution and SEX TRAFFICING, and even to increased sexual dysfunction in otherwise healthy young men. It is ALSO connected to sexual abuse of children. Consider some of the following connections: There are several documented cases of child sexual abusers using pornography to help them craft their plan of action for abuse. Child sexual abuse images (child porn) often "inspire" the abuser to follow suit, in many cases RECORDING their direct sexual abuse of the children to use AND distribute. Examples include Samuel Seager who abused a 12 yr old girl and stated "Would I have done so much with her if it hadn't been what I'd seen on the internet? I got ideas and really started playing with the deviant part of my mind? With these cases, you don't know what you would have done without that influence in your life...It's safe to say that the abuse was more aggressive, pronounced or worse because of the pornography" MAINSTREAM Porn often includes performers and storylines that are supposed to mimic teen and child-like scenarios. A few samples of the titles of porn videos for purchase on Comcast make it easy to see where these plans of action come from: Teen Petite A-Cup Princesses UK Schoolgirls pounded Innocent Easy Teens in Public Sweet Babysitters drenched in spunk 10 Best: Tiny teen Cuties Child Sexual abusers' taste for porn content depicting younger performers increases over time a study by Fortin and Proulix in 2018 analyzed data from hard drives of 40 convicted child abuse image collectors (child porn). They found the individuals grew more severe over time. 37.5% increased in severity in terms of both age and extremeness (measured COPINE Scale) meaning that the children depicted became younger and the acts more extreme over time. they also noted that all the child porn collectors included MAINSTREAM porn content. says "Compulsive porn users often describe escalation in their porn use that takes form of greater time viewing or seeking out new genres of porn". The article goes on to report that many users have had escalation of porn use and what materials are needed to arouse them, including child sexual abuse images in some cases. Evidence is MOUNTING that streaming digital porn appears to alter sexual tastes in some users, and that this is due to the addiction-related brain change known as habituation or desensitization. 60% of users reported their sexual tastes having significant escalation through multiple porn genres. Abusers point children to pornography as a way to groom and "train" their victims 2011 study "early exposure to porn may impact a child's view of what is normative and impair their ability to avoid, deter, or negotiate from a dangerous position..." This damaged view of what is normal in sexual relationships can and dose have a major impact on the children involved Prn normalizes deviant and dangerous sexual behavior -2018 study by Eran Shor. including aggression, degrading and risky sexy acts Porn found to be connected to rise in child-on-child harmful sexual behavior 400 million web searches revealed that the most popular term related to sexual searches was "youth" or "teen". Its clear demand for child sexual abuse content is high and ON THE RISE. EVERY 68 SECONDS a human being, citizen (463,634 age 12 yrs and older) is raped or sexually assaulted each year. Younger people are the HIGHEST RISK for sexual violence (under 34 years old). Women and Girls are experience the HIGHEST rates of Sexual Violence amongst all groups of victims. 1 out of every 6 American women ahs been the victim of attempted or completed rate in her lifetime. 1998 an estimated 17.7 Million American Women had been victims of attempted or completed rape. In 2021 that number is much highter 1 in 8 female rape victims reported that it occurred before age 10 82% of ALL Juvenile victims are female, 90% of adult rapes are female Females 16-19 are 4x more likely then general population to be victims MEN and Boys are ALSO AFFECTED by SEXUAL VIOLENCE. 1 in 33 American Men have experienced attempted or completed rate in their lifetime about 1 in 4 male rape victims were aged 11-17 about 1 in 4 male rape victims reported it occurred before age 10 As of 1998 2.78 million American Men have been victims of attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. Transgender students are at High risk for sexual violence. 21% of TGQN college students have been sexual assaulted Native Americans are twice as likely to experience rape/sexual assault compared to all other races LONG TERM EFECTS on VICTIMS: 94% of women who are raped experience PTSD 33% of women who survive rape will contemplate suicide 13% of women who survive rape will attempt suicide Victims of sexual assault are more likely to suffer from subsequent drug addiction then general public: 6 times more likely to use cocaine 10 times more likely to use other MAJOR drugs CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE can affect how that victims will think, act, and feel over their lifetime, resulting in short and long-term physical and mental/emotional consequences. SEX TRAFFICINNG = MODERN DAY HUMAN SLAVERY! Victims cross all gender, social, economic and racial definitions and age ranges vary. Our area is #4 in the Human Sex Trafficking trade, and this is not acceptable for a community that prides itself on seeking justice and equality. HOW IS THIS NOT THE TOP ISSUE? DOES PIECE COUNT HAVE SLAVERY? DOES PIERCE COUNTY STAND AGAINST SEXUAL ABUSE, AND TRY TO HELP STOP BOTH VICTIMS AND ABUSERS FROM EVER BEING CREATED? Please stand with me, for me, against this! Jami Roland
Laura Austin 10/25/21 6:37 PM I strongly support this proposal and think that it is a major key in the fight to protect our youth from pornographic imagery, which only leads in furthering body dysmorphia and mental health issues.
Alvie E and Shirley R ROBBINS 10/25/21 6:39 PM My wife and I strongly support R2021-191. The effects of pornography upon the building blocks of culture (the family) are beyond what we understand. We strongly urge passage of said legislation!
James barnett 10/25/21 6:51 PM So many people are hiding behind a wall with wicked addictions to pornography even more than ever before. With the pandemic in full swing, more people are trapped in their homes with full access to porn with no remorse. People are becoming so desensitized to what porn is becoming, age of access, as well as it even being a social topic. We see how teens are dressing more provocatively than ever, age of consent has moved even younger and pay to watch webcams, only fans, drive thru bikini stands, and way more but we aren’t talking about these things. I believe that we need to promote talk, have discussions about what we can do to educate minors in a healthy way, and start resisting the billion dollar porn business. It’s affecting peoples lives in very negative ways, just as alcohol or drugs do. We need to treat it accordingly..
Carla Steckel 10/25/21 7:02 PM This is a good proposal. We need to protect our children and communities. Please support it! Thank you! Carla Steckel

Maggie Rody 10/25/21 7:33 PM This resolution only lasts for one week a year. We need to bring awareness as to the devastation pornography plays in people's lives. It has such a ripple effect and hopefully, this resolution can help bring some of this to light. Please vote in support of Resolution No. R2021-191. Thank you
A Coffey 10/25/21 8:00 PM Yes!!! Support this proposal!!! Just as any other mental health concern would be approved to provide education and resources; this one definitely needs to be advocated for. Our community deserves the awareness!
Stephen Hawksford 10/25/21 8:03 PM I support the White Ribbon against poronography week in Pierce County 10/25 to 11/1, 2021.
Shonna Porter 10/25/21 8:15 PM Porn ruins lives, marriages and our children
Caitlin Aguillard 10/25/21 8:59 PM This is great legislation... we need to protect and support our children and communities. Please support this resolution. Thank you
Gina Bachmeier 10/25/21 9:55 PM I support Resolution No. R2021-191 - Proclaiming October 25 to November 1, 2021, as “White Ribbon Against Pornography Week” in Pierce County. I applaud Councilwoman Amy Cruver for putting forth this proclamation, taking a stand against an industry that profits off of objectifying women and exploiting the vulnerable and our children. As I read through the proclamation I found it difficult to imagine that this would not pass unanimously. But I understand that there is not widespread support from the Council. For example, the proclamation states, "Whereas, federal law strictly prohibits the distribution of obscene content to minors under obscenity law..." This is fairly straightforward, how could one oppose this statement as it is only supporting our law? Another example, the proclamation states, "Whereas, hardcore pornography is dominated by hostile sexism, violence, dehumanization, and objectification; usually depicted as men objectifying women thereby distorting the image of healthy human sexuality and relationships..." Again, to disagree with this statement implies that one is for the objectification of women, violence against women. I know that is not the case with the Pierce County Council so please send the right message to your constituents by supporting this proclamation!
Cheryl Isley 10/25/21 11:26 PM As a parent and grandparent, I ask all Pierce County Council members to support resolution R2021-191. We should all be concerned about the harmful effects pornography has on our youth and the impact to our society as a whole.
Michael Isley 10/25/21 11:28 PM I ask all Council Members to support this Resolution. Our children are the future, they deserve to be protected from exposure to pornography.
Annette Lobeck 10/25/21 11:39 PM I agree 100 % with this proposal. Of course it should be passed. It is shameful to even think about it. But exposing it for what it is ( sinful) and talking about it to prevent it from being viewed or taking advantage of someone is necessary and useful . This proposal will bring it more into the light, expose it as sin and hopefully help to save some lives from being sucked into the slavery of it.
Kurt Roddy 10/26/21 12:11 AM There is no rational, legitimate reason to oppose any measure that seeks to end the tragedy of human trafficking that is fostered by pornography and those in it's grip...unless you're a part of the solution - you're a part of the problem!
Robert Koreis 10/26/21 9:21 AM First I want to make it clear that I consider child pornography to be a heinous crime worthy of aggressive prosecution. However, the history of adults trying to set sexual moral standards for other adults has been lampooned in by comedians and repeatedly struck down by the courts. For example, the preface to Tom Lehrer’s 1965 parody piece, Smut: Now, I would like to say something about pornography or - as well call it in the United States - ‟smut”. Wonderful word, yes. There have been many cases in the American courts recently, about this very problem. The United States Supreme Court, for example, has decided that a book or a film can be banned if it arouses the ‟prurient interest of the average person”.1 Now, ‟prurient”, I looked that up, it means ‟having itching, morbid, or lewd and lascivious desires”. Now, surely that describes all of us here tonight. But, I disagree with this principle because I really enjoy having my prurient interests aroused; and, in fact, there’s only one thing I enjoy more than having them aroused, and that is having them gratified. So, as I say, I’m opposed to this, but we have marches now for peace, and marches for civil rights, so I thought I would have a march for smut. 2[I do have a cause, though; it is obscenity. I’m for it. Thank you. Unfortunately, the civil liberties types who are fighting this issue have to fight it - owing to the nature of the laws - as a matter of freedom of speech and stifling of free expression and so on. But we know what’s really involved: dirty books are fun! That’s all there is to it. But you can’t get up in a court and say that, I suppose. It’s simply a matter of freedom of pleasure, a right which is not guaranteed by the Constitution, unfortunately. Eight years prior, in Butler v. State of Michigan, Justice Frankfurter held that a Michigan anti-pornography law violated the due process clause of the 14th Amendment because it "reduce[d] the adult population of Michigan to reading only what is fit for children.” And equated it to burning “. . . the house to roast the pig.” There are many problems with this resolution. It includes statements of fact the are not true. It is not worthy of the council’s time.
Thereasa Trujillo 10/26/21 9:30 AM Support this proposal! This is good for your community & hopefully will start a chain reaction in communities across the State. We’re watching your County.
Levi Ware 10/26/21 9:39 AM This is an important resolution that speaks to a critical subject in our communities. Pornography has been directly linked to violent and sexual crimes. It is an insidious and seldom recognized contributor to the breakdown of families and communities. There is no downside, and potentially great upside, to this resolution. If nothing else it will raise awareness around the destructive nature of pornography and help people consider its impact in their own lives and relationships. Thank you for your support,
Jerry Gamache 10/26/21 9:45 AM White Ribbon Against Pornography Week in Pierce County will bring attention to the pornography and sex trafficking problem Pierce County is experiencing. Please support and thank you for your consideration. Jerry Gamache, Fox Island WA.

Deirdre Forman 10/26/21 2:16 PM Please pass this good and timely proposal. With the explosion of internet pornography, we see increases in human trafficking and violent exploitation of children and women. We see debilitating and dehumanizing addiction to pornography and the violence that it can lead to. We need to stand against pornography and raise awareness. Pleas pass this timely proposal for the benefit of our community.

Every other sin[a] a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Acts 3:17-26 English Standard Version 17 “And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18 But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. 19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, 20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. 22 Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ 24 And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. 25 You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ 26 God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” Isaiah 1:18 English Standard Version 18 “Come now, let us reason[a] together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. Psalm 9:9-10 English Standard Version 9 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. "Duty is ours, results are God's."
