Sam Betz 7/20/21 4:12 PM I strongly oppose Proposed Resolution No. R2021-131. This is the King County version of government and the incompetence in King County government is rampant. Making this position appointed will increase constituent distrust, eliminate checks and balances in many areas and provide strong potential for government corruption. This is a horrible idea and will only decrease public safety. Politicians in charge of police departments do more harm than good in many areas, and King County is the current case study for that type of epic failure. Just wait until Jan 1, 2022 when their appointed “sheriff” takes office. Please do not further entertain this proposal.
Nicole Ssebagala 7/20/21 7:20 PM Please say nay! We do not want an appointed Chief.
Allyn Woerman 7/23/21 3:15 PM Such a proposal if enacted would turn our county law enforcement agency into a tool of bureaucrats who will play partisan politics with what the sheriff and his deputies can and cannot do. We are already at much greater risk due to the insane state legislation going into effect this weekend which hamstrings law enforcement to essentially a non-entity with regard to drug enforcement. Do not allow this wrong-headed measure to move forward.
Linda Woerman 7/23/21 10:38 PM Thank You for serving Pierce County. I believe we need to continue to ELECT our Sheriff. I Oppose this Proposal re: Appointment.
Susan Barr 7/27/21 12:08 PM Absolutely NO! The Sheriff should be accountable to the people and to the law, not to politicians. Stop trying to turn Pierce County into a hellhole like Seattle and King County by neutering and politicizing law enforcement.
Mary Elsberry 7/27/21 1:19 PM I oppose R2021-131. I believe that the People of Pierce County should ELECT the Sheriff that they believe will do the best job. The Sheriff should be separate from the politics of the Council.
Jeff Pack 7/27/21 1:26 PM An elected sheriff is the only law enforcement we have that was actually elected by the people.
