Heather Benedict 5/30/25 7:09 PM Pierce County is approving a tax break for a 2.7-acre slice of bluff that can’t be built on anyway—meanwhile, taxpayers just forked over $1 million to clean up the mess in the Clerk’s Office after hiring someone who wasn’t even a Washington voter. If only preserving public trust earned the same perks as preserving shoreline. While we're classifying undevelopable land as “Open Space” and calling it a public benefit, let’s talk about the wide open canyon of accountability at the Clerk’s Office: a constitutional violation, an appointed—not elected—Clerk, and no real oversight. Until we fix the Charter and the corruption clogging our court system, maybe the only thing we should be enrolling in “Current Use” is the truth.
