nancy 11/18/24 12:05 PM Since covid, the jail was refused to allow book donations to the jail library. This has resulted in an extreme shortage of books. To the point a "pod" housing 6-15 people, will be sharing 2 - 3 books. The lack of literature means decreased mental stimulation, increased depression, and a long list of other negative impacts on mental health. The people being held within the jail have enough problems. the very least we can do is give them books. There are 100's of people that have been awaiting a mental health screening for over 6 months. That's 6 months without a court date. 6 months of their life gone. Everything they owned, their home, job, literally everything they worked their whole life for, taken away, without the chance to prove their innocence. 6 months taken away and they haven't even been proven guilty. They need mental health workers. And books.
